Having started my journey in Florida a month ago and fly fished across the U.S. and parts of Canada, I have never experienced such great customer service and genuine concern for the average fly angler from a fly shop. Gordon, Christine, and David are amazing, and create a positive experience for beginner to expert. Just one example of how accommodating they are is exemplified by David, the shop guru and resident fly tying expert. He personally tied a hot fly pattern for me, which totally blew me away. All anglers who come to Fernie and fish the Elk River will be hard pressed to find a better fly shop, and just plain awesome human beings.
Terrible experience as a first time BC angler. Was looking to get more knowledge on local fishing spots, but was met with a firm reluctance to share any info. Instead, we were told repeatedly and condescendingly that "if KILLING fish is what you're doing, that's NOT something WE do here" (which we had already expressed that we knew...we had done research on and was aware of this fact). The gentleman who was serving us was quite rude about this and did not give us much guidance as to where to get more local info. Highly recommend their competitor (and neighbor, conveniently) instead: Elk River Guiding Company. Though they weren't able to give us exact locations, they pulled out a map and explained the necessary licenses for other locales. They were also understanding to the fact that we were not from around there and didn't make us feel uncomfortable as visitors. Customer service was superior by far.
The BEST place to stop for flies, supplies and info on the waters. Hands down my favourite place in Fernie.
We have come up from the states 3 years in a row, and after a poor experience with another shop, we chose to use this one. Very friendly and helpful staff. Shuttles have always been run on time and done well. Good fly selection. These guys remember us every year we come up, and always go out of their way to make us feel welcomed.
I was here to grab a licence the first time. The young fella was pretty decent. It seems to be pretty pricey but it's to be expected in this resort town on a class 2 river. Lots of high end product.
