FWA guides took care of us with fresh lines. It was a great day of skiing and I can't wait to go back.
I had my best day of skiing with this crew. And I like to think I've had some good days of skiing through the years.
My wife and I had a day on the Elk River with our guide Michael. I'm a fly Fisher, and my wife has never tried. We both had a fantastic time! Highly recommend it!We stayed at the Park Place Lodge (where the FWA office is) and got the discounted rate. Had our licenses figured right away in the office and headed out about 9. The guides were there early taking tactics and tying up the latest patterns that were working (more on that later!)...Michael drove us to the put in and had us going in a few minutes - we were the first boat in. Gave my wife a casting lesson on the bank (he had a loaner rod), had s quick safety brief, and off we went.It was a bit cool, so started on nymphs and an indicator and got a few. Decided to switch to drys when it warmed up and went to a foam ant that Michael had tied that morning. Had awesome luck and hammered them!Stopped for lunch on the bank, and finally saw one other boat (good dozen guys wading up though).I wanted to try some euro nymphing (11ft 3wt), something Michael wasn't familiar with, but he was game. Found a good candidate where the river dropprd a shelf and was a bit slower. A learning curve, but we got a couple! They were small but a ton of fun on that rod! My wife got a few as well, and Michael was patient and encouraging the whole time. Very positive and confident. It helped that he was able to move the boat in to good positions where we didn't have to make miracle casts, and we could have good presentations. The guy earned his keep, getting out and getting us moving over shallow zones and even rowing back up in a few good spots. Knows the river, where to move the boat and what to expect. Can't say enough good things, if you have him as a guide you are in good hands!
Second time I've been out with the great guides at FWA. Awesome day out, with fresh lines all day. My only wish is the terrain was steeper
If you're even thinking of going Cat Skiing. . Do it. These guys are great. Guides are excellent terrain is fantastic and the snow is typically phenomenal.
